Fat Transfer Des Moines
What is Fat Transfer?
The procedure involves removal of your own fat by liposuction from one part of your body (usually the abdomen or hips) and then injecting the fat into another region of the body. The fat is used to restore volume and fullness or to soften and diminish lines and wrinkles. Loss of volume and fine lines and wrinkles are most noticeable as aging occurs and most often seen in the face. Fat can be transferred in very small amounts for areas such as the face or in larger volumes for areas of fat transfer such as the buttocks (Brazilian Butt Lift), the female breasts, and in conjunction with high definition 4D liposculpture which involves sculpting the muscles and anatomy and augmenting muscle groups with fat transfer. High Definition 4D liposculpture is most commonly performed on the abdominal muscles, male pectoral muscles, and arms.
The procedure for fat transfer and injections involves a three-step process. Initially, fat is removed using liposuction most commonly from the abdomen, flanks or thighs. Next, the fat is isolated and concentrated using the PureGraft system. Fat is a living, viable cell and must be handled with precision and care otherwise the fat cell will not survive transfer to another part of the body and will be resorbed. The PureGraft system results in purified fat grafts that are ideal for transfer and survivability. PureGraft can be used to transfer small or large volume of fat depending on the goals of treatment. The last step involves precisely injecting the purified fat into the treatment areas using special fat grafting cannulas.
What is PureGraft at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™?
PureGraft is a state-of-the-art fat grafting system that allows Dr. Robbins to transfer fat that is more than 97% contaminant-free. Harvesting of fat with liposuction can damage fat cells which results in the release of lipid oil that if reinjected with fat transfer, can cause the fat to not survive in its new location. Likewise, any blood that is not removed prior to reinjection can decrease fat graft survival. PureGraft provides a reliable fat purification method because of its patented filtration technology. PureGraft removes more than 97% of captured lipid, blood, and other fluids resulting in a more purified fat graft for best survivability. Dr. Robbins can also combine fat grafting with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) to increase survivability and restoration of youthful volume.
Fat can be harvested and be transferred anywhere in the body by Dr. Robbins but some of the more popular areas include:
- Breasts: PureGraft fat grafting can be used for natural breast augmentation in patients who do not wish to have implants. Best candidates are those women with good skin elasticity who desire a small increase in breast size. PureGraft fat grafting can also be used with breast implants to fill in any contour irregularities or minor asymmetries after the implants are placed. Dr. Robbins can also place fat grafts in the “upper pole” of the breast to restore lost volume due to pregnancy and breast feeding.
- Face: Fat can be injected into areas such as smile lines, forehead and frown lines to soften these lines and can also be injected into the cheeks to replace lost volume with aging.
- Buttocks: PureGraft fat grafting can be used in the buttocks to increase volume and improve shape (Brazilian Butt Lift). Buttocks lifts with implants can be unpredictable and have a history of many potential complications. Fat grafting does not use an implant and is a natural, predictable, and safe method for buttocks augmentation offered at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™
