What are the advantages of Smartlipo over traditional liposuction without a laser?

Why is Smartlipo considered minimally invasive?
The Des Moines Smartlipo procedure is commonly performed under local anesthesia alone with the patient awake or mildly sedated with oral sedative medication. The Smartlipo cannula is inserted under the skin into the fatty layer through 1-2 mm incisions. The laser is at the tip of the cannula and the aiming beam can be visualized through the skin allowing Dr. Robbins to precisely identify the treatment area. The laser energy at the cannula fiber tip ruptures fat cell membranes and releases fatty oil from the fat cells. This end product of fatty oil from fat cell membrane disruption is aspirated from the site. The Smartlipo at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™ works differently from traditional liposuction. Smartlipo disrupts fat cells by heat and a photodistruptive action or shattering of the fat cell membrane.
