The forehead region often succumbs to the effects of gravity before the rest of the face. This can create a tired or heavy appearance around the eyes and more importantly, it can make you look older than you actually are.
The endoscopic technique uses small incisions behind the hairline.
The result is a more open and pleasing expression.
Brow lift surgery with double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. David Robbins can open up your eyes and take years off of your appearance. At our Des Moines Plastic Surgery practice, we specialize in both traditional and endoscopic brow lift techniques.
When to Consider Brow Lift Surgery
Brow lift surgery is ideal for men and women who wish to rejuvenate their forehead and upper face. It's time to consider a brow lift if you have:
Most patients are between 40 and 60 years of age and seeking a more permanent solution than laser rejuvenation and injectable treatments can offer. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate is to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Robbins, a double board certified plastic surgeon who is board certified in American Board of Plastic Surgery and also American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
What's the difference between a traditional and endoscopic brow lift?
At Des Moines Plastic Surgery, a traditional brow lift is performed by making an incision from ear-to-ear across the scalp. The forehead is lifted and the frowning muscles are released. The scalp is then sutured into its' higher position, and excess skin is trimmed away. With the advent of the endoscopic brow lift, this technique has become less popular in recent years, but it's still recommended — particularly for patients with very heavy brows.
An endoscopic brow lift requires 4 short scalp incisions within the hairline, each less than an inch in length. Using specialized instruments, he is able to readjust the muscles and tissue without a large scalp incision.
What type of anesthesia is used during a brow lift?
Brow lift surgery is commonly performed using IV sedation or twilight anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used during your procedure will depend on Dr. Robbins recommendations. The procedure will take place at Des Moines Plastic Surgery in our fully accredited operating room.
Will I need to take time off from work?
Yes, you will need to take time off for rest and recuperation. Most patients choose to stay home for 7 to 10 days before resuming their normal routine. More strenuous activities should be avoided for several weeks to a month.
What is the recovery like after brow lift surgery?
Most patients experience numbness and temporary discomfort along the incision sites. Dr. Robbins will provide you with specific aftercare instructions, along with prescription pain medication to help you manage any discomfort. Bruising will also occur which will last from a few days to a couple of weeks.
Will there be permanent scarring?
All incisions and scars will be concealed within your natural hairline. Any visible scarring will fade and flatten over time, making them almost undetectable.
