Not all plastic surgeons are board certified and not all plastic surgeons are board certified by the necessary boards that are relevant to their specialty or overall medical practice.
Dr. Robbins graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical center with a medical degree and continued at UNMC for his surgical training. He then completed plastic surgery training at the University of Kentucky.

Why Board Certification Is Important
When selecting a plastic surgeon, it is essential that you confirm your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) under the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Dr. Robbins holds the distinction of being board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
In many states, a licensed physician may perform cosmetic procedures without being board-certified in plastic surgery. And just because a doctor is board-certified does not necessarily mean they are certified by the ABPS.
The ABPS is the only one of the 24 boards approved by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) that certifies physicians in plastic surgery of the face and all areas of the body. The ABMS was established to protect patients by monitoring and regulating the quality of medical education.
To be certified by the ABPS, a physician must meet these demanding requirements:
- GRADUATE FROM AN ACCREDITED MEDICAL SCHOOL
- COMPLETE A RESIDENCY IN GENERAL SURGERY
- COMPLETE AN APPROVED RESIDENCY IN PLASTIC SURGERY
- PASS A RIGOROUS PROCESS OF ORAL AND WRITTEN EXAMS AS WELL AS PEER EVALUATION
- PRACTICE PLASTIC SURGERY AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY FOR A MINIMUM OF FOUR YEARS

He also was among 175 surgeons across the U.S. selected as a consultant for Allergan (manufacturer of breast implants, Botox, fillers, Coolsculpting) to attend the Plastic and Regenerative Medicine Advisory Board held in Denver, CO on June 3, 2017. The meeting was designed to bring together the busiest plastic surgeons in the US to discuss future growth of the industry, new products and procedures, marketing strategies in collaboration with Allergan.
