Many women seek out cosmetic breast augmentation surgery in Des Moines because their breast size plays a role in feeling healthy, confident and attractive.
Learning about breast augmentation
Breast augmentation goes by many names, including breast enhancement, breast implants, and augmentation mammaplasty. A cosmetic breast augmentation surgery involves the placement of implants to increase the size, fullness and volume of their breasts. The elective surgical procedure uses saline or silicone implants to increase breast volume in women interested in improving their appearance, balancing their physique, or making up for lost breast volume after breastfeeding.
Dr. Robbins has completed over 5,000 breast augmentation surgeries and performs numerous breast and body contouring procedures each week in the Des Moines Plastic Surgery on-site operating room. The operating room is dedicated exclusively to cosmetic surgeries. Dr. Robbins performs breast augmentations, as well as breast lifts, breast reductions and many other cosmetic plastic surgery procedures.

Breast augmentation may be a good option for you if:
- You are physically healthy
- You have realistic expectations
- Your breasts are fully developed
- You are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too small
- You are dissatisfied with your breasts losing shape and volume after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or aging
- Your breasts vary in size or shape
- One or both breasts failed to develop normally
What Will the Consultation Be Like?
Dr. Robbins and the Des Moines Plastic Surgery team will evaluate your overall health and review your medical history at a consultation. During a breast augmentation consultation Dr. Robbins will measure you and discuss all the pros and cons of different implant sizes, types, and placements. We want to ensure you feel confident that you’ve made the right decision.
Dr. Robbins will inquire about any medications and nutritional supplements you may be taking. He will ask about your mammography results and any past biopsies or family history of breast cancer. All risk factors will be considered before the surgery is scheduled.
The two of you will discuss your goals for breast augmentation, and Dr. Robbins will talk to you about your expected results. He will be happy to answer any questions.
What Is Breast Augmentation Like?
At the start of breast augmentation surgery, general anesthesia is administered to ensure patient comfort. Breast augmentation surgery usually only takes one to two hours to perform, and patients can return home soon after they have surgery that same day. Patients are required to have an assigned ‘caretaker’ (family member, friend etc.) for the first 24 hours after surgery as they will not be able to drive themselves following the surgery and it is in best practice they have someone to help assist them as needed.
What Is Recovery Like After Breast Augmentation?
6 to 8 weeks is the typical time needed for recuperation after breast augmentation. If issues emerge, such as an infection or a leaking implant, the process could be prolonged.
It is vital that you follow Dr. Robbins’s orders to reduce the likelihood of these complications following breast augmentation surgery. It will be necessary to wear a supportive bra without underwire for a time, and incision sites should be cared for as directed.
How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost?
The cost of Breast Augmentation varies because it is a highly individualized surgery tailored for each patient. The overall price may include anesthesia, operating room facilities, new breast implants, and other related expenses. Additional tests and imaging may also add to your total. Contact us for additional information.
