The treatment is non-invasive and requires no down time, no surgery, and no anesthesia. People in the Des Moines area are amazed at how CoolSculpting works on those areas of the body that have bothered them for years or they have tried so hard to reduce the fat by working out, but the fat just wouldn’t budge!

CoolSculpting can be used in men and women to help reduce the appearance of fat on the:

  • waist and abdomen (love handles or muffin tops)
  • upper arms
  • upper inner thighs
  • upper outer thighs
  • back (bra fat, back rolls)
  • banana roll (bottom of buttocks)
  • male breasts
  • submental fat (“double chin”)

Is CoolSculpting right for me?

Many of us have pockets of unwanted fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. If you are close to your ideal weight but want to target specific areas of the body, CoolSculpting may be the ideal solution for you. CoolSculpting is not a weight loss solution for people who are obese. Good candidates have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to say goodbye to. Our experts will determine if the treatment is right for you during a one-on-one cosmetic consultation at Coachlight Clinic & Spa.

How CoolSculpting Works

CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis, a specialized technique that freezes fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissues. The problem areas are isolated and a gel pad is placed around them for comfort. An applicator gently pulls and performs the cooling of the fat just above freezing. Different sized applicators are used to treat different areas.

The cryolipolysis causes fat cells to crystallize without harming others cells. These cells are then broken down by the body’s own natural metabolic processes over a period of two to four months. With each treatment, typically you will see a noticeable reduction of fat from the treated area.

FAQs

  • What can I expect during treatment?

CoolSculpting is a comfortable, low-risk procedure. It is completely non-invasive so there is no surgery, no needles, and no anesthesia. It will feel very cold at first, but this sensation will dissipate over a few minutes. Application time depends on the size of and number of areas being treated, but, as a guide, one area takes approximately 35 minutes to 1 hour. Patients typically watch television, read a book, listen to music, browse on a tablet, or just relax.

  • How soon will I see results?

Some patients notice a difference within a few weeks of treatment; however, the final results will not be visible for two to four months.

  • Are the results long lasting?

As long as you maintain your current weight through diet and exercise, you will have long-lasting results. Multiple sessions may be required to get the desired result. Individual results may vary.

  • Is it safe?

CoolSculpting has been approved by the FDA for treating fat.

  • What happens after treatment?

You may resume your regular day-to-day activities immediately after the treatment. It is normal to see some redness or some bruising, which will clear within a few hours. There may be some numbness from the cooling, which may last several weeks. Additionally, there may be some mild discomfort which will decrease after a few days to a few weeks. Overall, there is no down time from the procedure.

  • What is your Cancellation/Scheduling Fee?

A $200 nonrefundable Scheduling Fee is required at the time of scheduling your CoolSculpting procedure. If you do not show for your scheduled procedure or cancel the procedure less than 24 hours prior, you will NOT be refunded your $200, nor will it be used toward ANY future treatments and is non-transferable to people, products and services.

Meeting Dr. David Robbins

This is the customer’s opportunity to ask any and all questions. It is also Dr. Robbins’ opportunity to ask you questions as well. Every conversation should be open and honest because surgery is a big deal and both parties involved want the best outcome with the best experience possible. You should be expected to talk about the following:

What you want to change about your body, and why you want to change it?
How you feel about your body now, and how you would like to feel after plastic surgery?
Your goals: what do you want to look like after surgery, what specific changes would you like to see?
Which procedure(s), if any, can help you achieve your goals?
What results you can expect from each procedure?
What’s involved in the surgery (anesthesia type, incisions, recovery timeframe)?
The risks and possible complications from surgery?
Review your medical history (be open and honest for your safety).

When you are called back to begin your consultation appointment, you will first meet with a patient coordinator, who will review your medical history with you and help you get settled. Your patient coordinator is your liaison between you and the practice. They make sure your questions are addressed quickly as you consider your options before surgery as well as throughout your surgery and recovery process. They also help you with scheduling pre-op appointments, your surgery date, and post-op appointments.

Our front desk receptionist is also able to schedule pre-op appointments, your surgery date, and post-op appointments. The patient coordinator will credential the office and the staff, including Dr. Robbins, so that you have a good understanding of what sets Des Moines Plastic Surgery apart from other local plastic surgery practices.

Before Scheduling A Consultation

We encourage customers to do research online, talk with family and friends and verify the plastic surgeon is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Please visit our website for more information about the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

This often prepares the customer for the consult and makes them feel more comfortable with Dr. Robbins.

A consultation is equal parts interview, learning experience, and time to see the possibilities of what cosmetic surgery can achieve for you. It’s a two-way conversation that should help you answer important questions:

Is cosmetic surgery the right option for me?
If so, which procedure or procedures are appropriate?
Who do I want to perform my procedure(s)?
Are the benefits worth the risks?
You get these answers by meeting with Dr. Robbins, a board certified plastic surgeon and his staff and asking more detailed questions. Expect each consultation to last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It is important to remember you are consulting for elective cosmetic surgery, not covered by insurance.

How Is The PRP Hair Restoration Procedure Performed?

A small amount of blood (10mL- about a tablespoon) is drawn in our office just like a routine blood test. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge which will separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the other blood components which are not utilized. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp. An additional technique uses Microneedling or a Profractional laser to make microscopic entry points in the skin of the scalp. PRP is then injected into the scalp. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and the patient may drive themselves home. Early studies suggest that the procedure be repeated every three to six months for best results.

PRP in the field of hair restoration is in its early stages and although no long term studies have been performed as it relates to its effectiveness, there is substantial evidence that PRP is a promising treatment option for hair growth. Extensive clinical trials are not complete and medical data is not yet published to establish the absolute effectiveness of PRP therapy in hair restoration. PRP should not be considered a “cure” for hair loss and no guarantee can be made about its individual effectiveness. The kits used to make the PRP are FDA approved. The kits are sterile and isolate the PRP in a very effective way.

How Does PRP Hair Restoration Work?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) in human blood contains many growth factors that stimulate stem cells which have the ability to stimulate new cell and tissue growth and regeneration as well as tissue healing in the environment or location that the PRP is placed. Multiple medical publications over the past two decades confirm the safety and use of PRP therapy. PRP has been used with great success over the past 20 years in the fields of plastic surgery, reconstructive and wound healing treatments, oral surgery, neurosurgery, and orthopedics.

PRP as it relates to hair growth is an exciting new non-surgical option for patients who may benefit from stimulation of hair growth and preventing further loss. PRP hair restoration does not re-grow hair but uses your own blood products to increase hair thickness and stimulates existing hair follicles to grow and is best applied to small areas of thinning hair, receding hairlines, and loss of hair volume. PRP is not meant to replace FDA approved medications to prevent hair loss but may be used in addition to these medications or may be an option for those who wish to not take medications or have side effects from these medications. PRP will complement the effects of minoxidil and DHT blockers. PRP hair restoration is also a great option for those who are not candidates for surgery or who want to delay formal hair transplant surgery. PRP can also be used after Neograft hair transplant to improve graft survival and speed of growth as well as to help prevent ongoing hair loss.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the body’s natural healing elixir and acts as a natural fertilizer that stimulates stem cells to grow and repair aged and damaged tissue. Platelet-rich plasma(PRP) therapy can be a proactive treatment for patients experiencing thinning hair or as an adjunct to hair transplant procedures. PRP has been utilized for years as a way to stimulate growth of new cells in a variety of applications. PRP has recently received a great deal of press as it relates to treatments to restore youthful appearance to your skin. For example, Des Moines Plastic Surgery uses PRP with lasers and microneedling to expedite healing and for anti-aging and improvement in skin texture and tone.

A tummy tuck can address both the upper and lower abdomen. It’s important to note that tummy tuck surgery is not a substitute for conventional weight loss. The best candidates will already be in good health and physical shape before electing surgery.

The goal of tummy tuck surgery is to redefine and reshape the abdomen through the removal of excess skin and fat and tightening of abdomen muscles.

You may be a good candidate for abdominoplasty if you have:

Localized fat deposits around your midsection
Excess or hanging skin around your abdomen
Stretched or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)

A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals.

Even individuals of otherwise normal body weight and proportion can develop an abdomen that protrudes or is loose and sagging. The most common causes of this include:

Aging
Heredity
Pregnancy
Prior surgery
Significant fluctuations in weight

Consultation: the first step.

Many women start their surgical journey by talking to a friend or a relative who has already had a breast augmentation. While these are all good places to start, your most valuable resource is a personal consultation with a plastic surgeon.

A consultation doesn’t take long, and with an expert’s opinion, you’ll be better able to understand the benefits, risks, and discover which implant options are best for you and your body.
