Individual results may vary
Rhinoplasty is one of several facial plastic surgery procedures offered at our Des Moines practice. Dr. Robbins can combine nose surgery with other enhancements such as chin augmentation. Dr. Robbins has a special focus on facial cosmetic surgery, and is the only quadruple board certified plastic surgeon in Iowa by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Board of Laser Surgery.
When to Consider Rhinoplasty
You may be a good candidate for nose reshaping surgery if you:
- Have structural problems like a hook or a bump
- Have functional problems like a deviated septum
- Are healthy and do not smoke
- Possess realistic goals and expectations
Nose surgery can improve the balance and proportion of your face by altering the size, shape or projection of your nose. It may also be used to correct breathing problems and birth defects.
The best way to determine if surgery is right for you is to schedule a cosmetic consultation at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™. Dr. Robbins specializes in rhinoplasty and other facial cosmetic surgeries.
FAQs
-
What happens during nose surgery?
At Des Moines Plastic Surgery™, nose surgery is an outpatient procedure that typically requires general anesthesia. Once you’ve been placed under anesthesia in our fully accredited operating room, Dr. Robbins will either make a small incision across the base of your nose (known as open rhinoplasty) or within your nostrils (known as closed rhinoplasty).
Through these incisions, Dr. Robbins can reduce or augment your nose, depending on your cosmetic or medical needs. Once surgery is complete, Dr. Robbins will apply a nasal splint and nasal supports to hold your new shape during recovery.
-
How much time will I need to take off from work?
When you wake up from surgery, your face will feel swollen and bruised. You should plan to spend the first couple of days resting in bed with your head elevated. Most patients are able to resume work and light physical activity within a week of surgery. It’s important to remember that noticeable facial swelling and bruising may be present for a couple of weeks.
-
When will I see the final results of surgery?
Most swelling and bruising will subside within one month of surgery. From there, some residual swelling, noticeable only to you and Dr. Robbins, may last for 6 months. You may need to wait up to a full year before your final results are visible.
-
Are there any alternatives to nose surgery?
Some dermal and soft tissue fillers may be used to provide subtle corrections to the shape of your nose. However, it’s important to note that these products only provide temporary results. Repeated treatments will be needed to maintain results. Several kinds of dermal and soft tissue fillers are available at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™.
-
What are some of the risks associated with nose surgery?
Before considering nose surgery, it’s important to understand that there are risks associated with all surgical procedures. Dr. Robbins will discuss risks associated with nose surgery during your cosmetic consultation. Some risks may include, but not limited to, infection, adverse reaction to anesthesia, bleeding, numbness, swelling and scarring.
