Mommy Makeover Des Moines

After a few years and a couple of children, many women today are deciding to get their bodies back with a mommy makeover.

A mommy makeover includes a combination of procedures, such as a tummy tuck and breast surgery, along with other body-shaping treatments, like liposuction, that rejuvenate a mom’s physique.

Is a Mommy Makeover right for me?

The stress of raising a family today is often combined with a full-time career, and many mothers don’t have time to go to a gym. Even for those that do, there are still stubborn areas of fat as well as sagging skin that’s an inevitable part of aging and being a mom.

But today women realize that cosmetic surgery is a viable and acceptable option for continuing to look their best. With a few surgical procedures, mothers feel young again, with minimal down time.

Breast Enhancement

Breastfeeding and aging can cause sagging, and sometimes only a little lift or enhancement is needed. Other times, women see their breasts lose volume after pregnancy. In a mommy makeover, breast augmentation and breast lift surgeries are included to restore breast fullness and youthful breast position. In a consultation with Dr. Robbins you will have the opportunity to see what your breasts will look like after a breast augmentation by utilizing our Vectra 3D Imaging System. Des Moines Plastic Surgery™ is the only practice in Iowa offering the Vectra 3D Imaging System. Patients love this system because it allows you to see a 3D image of yourself before and after breast implants. It is also used for breast lifts and facial surgeries like rhinoplasty. See our Vectra 3D Imaging webpage for more information or learn more about the Vectra 3D sculptor at SculptMyDream.com.

Tummy Tuck

The abdominal area is another primary area of focus in the mommy makeover. Stretch marks and/or belly fat can all be treated through a tummy tuck. Depending on where the stretch marks are located, they can often times be minimized during an abdominoplasty because that skin is removed. Even the most active mom may find it is hard to lose the pouch beneath her belly button. During a tummy tuck, Dr. Robbins can flatten the abdomen by repairing the muscles, while removing excess fat and sagging skin. If surgery is not an option, we offer CoolSculpting and Exilis which are nonsurgical ways to reduce belly fat. Click here to learn more about CoolSculpting which reduces fat by freezing it. Exilis provides fat reduction AND skin tightening through heat and radio frequency.

Liposuction and Fat Reduction

Liposuction is another optional treatment in a mommy makeover. As one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today, liposuction reduces localized areas of excess fat. Dr. Robbins can sculpt areas such as the abdomen, arms, buttocks, thighs, or hips. The recovery for liposuction is minimal. Click Here to learn more about liposuction.

Another option, which is becoming more popular than traditional liposuction for fat reduction is Smartlipo. The advantage of Smartlipo is that it provides fat reduction, skin tightening, and you are awake for the procedure. Local numbing is used on the indicated areas instead of general anesthesia.

Skin Care

As part of a total approach to a mommy makeover, skin care essentials can also be considered. This includes the use of chemical peels, microdermabrasion, as well as laser treatments for hair removal and wrinkle reduction. Botox® and dermal fillers, like Juvederm® and Radiessse®, can also enhance results.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

  • Can new mothers have a mommy makeover?

Because the body is still recovering and changing, you need to wait six months after childbirth before you get plastic surgery. Likewise, nursing mothers should also wait three to six months after breastfeeding before any breast procedures. If you are planning on having more children, wait until afterwards to have your tummy tuck.

  • Can more than one procedure be done at a time?

Yes. Combined procedures are very common in plastic surgery. They can save you time (by combining recovery times) and money. During a complimentary cosmetic consultation, Dr. Robbins can create a surgical plan designed to do both at the same time or a staged approach if that works better for you and your family.

  • Who can perform a mommy makeover?

You should choose a board certified plastic surgeon who is experienced in body contouring and breast enhancement procedures. Here at Des Moines Plastic Surgery™, Dr. Robbins has performed many procedures like this, as exemplified in our before and after photo gallery. For more than 30 years, the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) has been dedicated to excellence in the medical specialty of cosmetic surgery and committed to providing the highest standard of care to our patients.

As the only certifying board that exclusively tests a surgeon’s knowledge and experience in cosmetic surgery, ABCS board certification is reserved for extraordinary surgeons who already possess at least one recognized board certificate, complete a comprehensive AACS certified fellowship training program in cosmetic surgery, and pass rigorous written and oral exams. In reality, many cosmetic or plastic surgeons do not qualify to take the ABCS board exam because of the very strict qualifications they must meet.

The American Board of Laser Surgery (ABLS) was founded in 1984 by physicians, physicists and other medical practitioners from various fields who were experienced in the fundamental science and clinical applications of lasers. They shared a concern for the safe and efficacious use of lasers in medicine and surgery. They believed that the increasing complexity and utilization of lasers in treating patients had created a need for the establishment of key standards of knowledge, competence, and experience for those who used lasers in medicine.

Many individual physicians, hospital administrators, chairmen of credentialing committees, and other concerned persons expressed a desire for an organization that would fulfill these needs. In doing so, they recognized that lasers are sophisticated instruments requiring special knowledge and experience for safe and effective use in surgery and other medical procedures.

From the very beginning of the era of lasers in clinical use, iatrogenic, laser-related injuries and deaths were occurring among patients. This was the incentive for the founding of the American Board of Laser Surgery. Today, deaths are rare, but burns, complications and sub-optimal outcomes are still all too common.

The Mission of the ABLS is to educate and credential as many qualified laser and light practitioners as possible to ensure the efficacious and safe outcomes for patients.

Dr. Robbins is certified by the ABLS in Cosmetic Laser Surgery and has been since 2013.

Meeting Dr. David Robbins

This is the customer’s opportunity to ask any and all questions. It is also Dr. Robbins’ opportunity to ask you questions as well. Every conversation should be open and honest because surgery is a big deal and both parties involved want the best outcome with the best experience possible. You should be expected to talk about the following:

What you want to change about your body, and why you want to change it?
How you feel about your body now, and how you would like to feel after plastic surgery?
Your goals: what do you want to look like after surgery, what specific changes would you like to see?
Which procedure(s), if any, can help you achieve your goals?
What results you can expect from each procedure?
What’s involved in the surgery (anesthesia type, incisions, recovery timeframe)?
The risks and possible complications from surgery?
Review your medical history (be open and honest for your safety).

A consultation is equal parts interview, learning experience, and time to see the possibilities of what cosmetic surgery can achieve for you. It’s a two-way conversation that should help you answer important questions:

Is cosmetic surgery the right option for me?
If so, which procedure or procedures are appropriate?
Who do I want to perform my procedure(s)?
Are the benefits worth the risks?
You get these answers by meeting with Dr. Robbins, a board certified plastic surgeon and his staff and asking more detailed questions. Expect each consultation to last from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It is important to remember you are consulting for elective cosmetic surgery, not covered by insurance.

How Is The PRP Hair Restoration Procedure Performed?

A small amount of blood (10mL- about a tablespoon) is drawn in our office just like a routine blood test. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge which will separate the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the other blood components which are not utilized. The highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp. An additional technique uses Microneedling or a Profractional laser to make microscopic entry points in the skin of the scalp. PRP is then injected into the scalp. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and the patient may drive themselves home. Early studies suggest that the procedure be repeated every three to six months for best results.

PRP in the field of hair restoration is in its early stages and although no long term studies have been performed as it relates to its effectiveness, there is substantial evidence that PRP is a promising treatment option for hair growth. Extensive clinical trials are not complete and medical data is not yet published to establish the absolute effectiveness of PRP therapy in hair restoration. PRP should not be considered a “cure” for hair loss and no guarantee can be made about its individual effectiveness. The kits used to make the PRP are FDA approved. The kits are sterile and isolate the PRP in a very effective way.

How Does PRP Hair Restoration Work?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) in human blood contains many growth factors that stimulate stem cells which have the ability to stimulate new cell and tissue growth and regeneration as well as tissue healing in the environment or location that the PRP is placed. Multiple medical publications over the past two decades confirm the safety and use of PRP therapy. PRP has been used with great success over the past 20 years in the fields of plastic surgery, reconstructive and wound healing treatments, oral surgery, neurosurgery, and orthopedics.

#prphairrestoration #prpfacial #prpinjection #prpmicroneedling #prptreatment #desmoines #desmoinesplasticsurgery #iowa #neograft #hairloss #eclipseprp

PRP as it relates to hair growth is an exciting new non-surgical option for patients who may benefit from stimulation of hair growth and preventing further loss. PRP hair restoration does not re-grow hair but uses your own blood products to increase hair thickness and stimulates existing hair follicles to grow and is best applied to small areas of thinning hair, receding hairlines, and loss of hair volume. PRP is not meant to replace FDA approved medications to prevent hair loss but may be used in addition to these medications or may be an option for those who wish to not take medications or have side effects from these medications. PRP will complement the effects of minoxidil and DHT blockers. PRP hair restoration is also a great option for those who are not candidates for surgery or who want to delay formal hair transplant surgery. PRP can also be used after Neograft hair transplant to improve graft survival and speed of growth as well as to help prevent ongoing hair loss.
